Murrigunyah Family & Cultural Healing Centre is a community based sexual assault support service. We work with a holistic and cultural perspective supporting the social, emotional & spiritual interests of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander clients and families.

Murrigunyah was established in 1997 and is controlled by Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander women of Logan City.

All services offered are free of charge. Our centre is a safe and supportive space with appropriately qualified staff to assist clients and community.

We provide:

  • A contact point for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, women families
  • Support through counselling, advocacy, practical assistance and relevant information
  • Referrals to appropriate services for clients
  • A cultural link between men, women and families to other services
  • Programs which are culturally appropriate for clients and families
  • Community workshops on issues surrounding family and sexual violence

We provide outreach at Brisbane Southwest Support as needed.

Services Murrigunyah offers

Murrigunyah offers individual counselling in a safe and supportive space and is available free of charge for survivors of sexual assault whether recent or past. Counselling can be face to face or via phone. People accessing counselling will initially meet with an intake worker who will help to identify your needs and what support you require. You will be provided with information on the type of help available at Murrigunyah and other relevant services. If you are offered and choose to have counselling you will be referred to our qualified family project worker for ongoing counselling.

Murrigunyah offers various programs and healing sessions that aim to respond positively to the cultural, social and emotional well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, women, youth and families in the Logan community.

Healing Our Way

The Wunndeela Dreaming (Sister Dreaming) healing group is a weekly group aimed at providing women tools to realise their full potential, to build on their self-confidence and to empower them in their endeavours.

The National Redress Scheme:

  • Acknowledges that many children were sexually abused in Australian institutions
  • Recognises the suffering they endured because of this abuse
  • Holds institutions accountable for this abuse
  • Helps people who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse gain access to counselling, a direct personal response, and a Redress payment

Murrigunyah provides free, confidential emotional support and legal and financial counselling for people thinking about or applying to the Scheme.
