Services Zig Zag offers

Services Zig Zag offers: Housing Support: Zig Zag provides medium-term supported accommodation to women and gender diverse young people aged 16 to 25 years who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Zig Zag’s supported accommodation is for women and gender diverse young people who:

  • are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless
  • are with or without children
  • are aged 16 to 25 years
  • can live independently with some support provided by Zig Zag
  • are comfortable with medium-term housing and engaging in support to find long term housing.

We acknowledge the impacts of the current housing crisis and the extra barriers young people face in finding and keeping stable and safe housing. Zig Zag walks alongside women and gender diverse young people in their journey of finding and advocating for safe and secure housing

Unfortunately, we do not have emergency accommodation so we are unable to provide housing straight away. If you are in a crisis and need accommodation immediately, see our Support Hotlines page for more information.

Zig Zag’s Sexual Assault Program provides information, advocacy, referral, support and counselling to young women and gender diverse young people aged between the ages of 12 and 25. The service recognises that young people face unique issues when dealing with the effects of sexual assault, and that they are less likely to be believed or supported.

A Zig Zag counsellor will:

  • Listen, believe and support
  • Provide a safe space to be able to share your feelings around what has happened and address any concerns you may have
  • Provide information that allows young people to make informed choices
  • Provide information about counselling so young people know what to expect
  • Build a relationship with young people that is based on honesty, openness and respect
  • Provide ideas and options about ways to explore her/their thoughts and feelings through writing, talking, art and group work
  • Encourage and support young people in the decisions they make and respect her/their choices

Zig Zag can come out to schools, community groups and events to provide education about the nature and prevalence of sexual assault and its impacts on women and gender diverse young people. We aim to increase community awareness about the prevalence of sexual abuse and contribute to the development of appropriate community responses to sexual violence.
